My career in the loss of life care profession spanned ten years but encompassed the industry from several perspectives. What linked all these together was my role as a driver for the dead. Sometimes I got a funeral driver, other times I found from morgues, and in another capacity I found the deceased from the displays of automobile accidents, shootings, hit and works, and worse. Finally, I cleaned up after homicides, crashes, and suicides as a part business. I could have structured it in a logical, linear fashion, but that isn't how I remember it. My encounters varied widely and the pacing of the work was frenetic, amazing, heartbreaking, and strangely edifying. Like loss of life itself, it was always unstable.
