The Civil War was the deadliest conflict in American record, and had both sides realized it could take four years and inflict more than a million casualties, it could not have been fought. The Confederacy's trust of being let go in peace finished at 4:30 a.m. on the morning of April 12, 1861, when Confederate Brigadier-General P.G.T. Beauregard bought the first photographs to be fired at the national garrison defending Fort Sumter in the Charleston Harbor, effectively igniting the Civil War. Today First Bull Run is remembered as the first important land struggle of the Civil War, but with over 350 wiped out on each area, it was the deadliest struggle in American record at this point, and both Confederacy and the Union were quickly dished up notice that the conflict would be much more costly than either area had believed.
