Radarman Second Course Zack Martin would like only to sail out to sea on a sleek destroyer, now that the warfare in Vietnam is warming up. Instead of heading to the American Pacific, he's stuck in a dead end clerical position. When he's ordered to join a fresh ship, it isn't quite what he envisioned, but his frame of mind changes when he learns he'll finally be getting work in a battle zone. Although Martin craves hazard and excitement - and an opportunity to help the warfare work in Vietnam - this objective may have more perils than he bargained for. The captain, in charge of a dispatch for the first time, is anxious to make a name for himself. Misadventures in port pale into assessment with the potential risks the captain is eager to use when he deviates from the crew's objective. Will his gamble pay back, or will he put the complete ship into hazard? In Reviews from the US Navy II: Friendly Hearth, Bob Stockton draws on personal experience to make a novella that places listeners right on the deck of the dispatch, even as it pulls them headlong in to the unforgettable story.
