Nominated for 2007 Great Lakes E book Honor and Finalist 2006 ForeWord E book of the Time On November 18, 1958, when the limestone carrier Carl D. Bradley broke up during a raging storm on Lake Michigan, it became the most significant ship in Great Lakes' background to vanish beneath storm-tossed waves. Combined with the Bradley, 33 crew members perished. Most of the casualties hailed from the little harbor town of Rogers City, Michigan, a community that was stung with grief when, immediately, 23 women became widows and 53 children were kept fatherless. Nevertheless, this is also a tale of survival, as it recounts the tale of two of the ship's crew, whose 15-hour ordeal over a life raft, in gale-force winds and 25-foot waves, is a impressive story of endurance and tenacity. Although Carl D. Bradley has been called "the ship that time forgot", Dark colored November recalls that tragic day more than 50 years back and it is a moving tribute to the ship and its crew. The booklet is shared by Michigan Talk about University Press.
