William Hazlitt is one of the main authors of the English language. His fame as a critic, essayist, and interpersonal commentator ranks with famous brands Samuel Johnson and George Orwell. He considered his justly famous The Life of Napoleon as his most important work. In this, the second volume of the work, William Hazlitt takes us through the history of Napoleon's promotions in Italy and Egypt. Throughout these promotions, and in Napoleon's life in Paris between them, we can see a young, great military leader beginning to convert himself from a leader of armies into a leader of countries. His great successes on the battlefield bring him to the adoring attention of the French people and the rather alarmed attention of the French authorities. The Directory sees him to be always a very valuable property and a considerable threat, both at the same time. Hazlitt was a life-long admirer of Napoleon and of the People from france Trend, but his admiration had not been blind. His analysis is both ardent and clear-sighted. At this stage in Napoleon's career, he centers more on the fantastic evens, less on the person and his head. It is a proper focus; at this time in his life, Napoleon's complete existence was twisted up in those great occurrences, his personal life was submerged in them. Hazlitt sometimes transcends and sometimes comes sufferer to the prevailing behaviour of his day. His thinking sometimes juxtaposes highly intensifying ideas with everyday bigotry. His words has been remaining as he published it; it is valuable to listen to and remember that even great imagination have organised ideas we choose to think we have overcome. The Life of Napoleon was originally printed in four quantities in 1828-1830, shortly before Hazlitt's loss of life. It was later republished in a restricted edition of six quantities by the Grolier Culture. This audiobook is based on that edition.
