"The condition with Scotland is that it's packed with Scots!" These words may have only been spoken by Patrick McGoohan, the acting professional who played out Edward I in the film Braveheart and never uttered by the true Edward I of England, but they seem to establish quite well the sentiments he believed when talking about his neighborhood friends to the north. Many have heard about the movie Braveheart or seen it, perhaps even read the booklet, which gives a lot more detail. Many have noticed other stories of William Wallace, of Edward I, the "Longshanks", because of his amazingly long legs, of Wallace's possible motivation of the character of Robin Hood, but just how many know what really took place from 1290 to 1314 to require the Scots to deal with for a country that already belonged to them? Scotland was eventually victorious in their conflict for freedom, but what were the complexities for the conflict, and just why should an already self-employed region need to reestablish its sovereignty? Scots today view Edward I as a cruel tyrant and cannot keep for his name to be spoken, some going so far as to write has as a testament to his cruelty, while many British view him as a nationwide hero. He was known as the "Hammer of the Scots" for his treatment and ferocity in his Scottish advertising campaign. When his life was reexamined, by the British, for making a statue, Edward I got viewed as having done what he have to Scotland to counter its rebelliousness; however, it had not been taken into consideration that Scotland never rebelled since it had always been self-employed. No-one has dared before century, however, to erect any new statues of Edward.
