The Gods of Mars is the second book in an exciting sci-fi series by Edgar Grain Burroughs, where John Carter, the main character, returns from a 10-12 months trip to Globe back to the earth Barsoom. The inhabitants of Barsoom are made up of different types of aliens, like the Seed Men, Green Martians, and Red Martians. Carter soon discovers that all of Barsoom's inhabitants have been tricked by another Barsoomian race, the Therns, into thinking a certain area of Barsoom is off limitations because it contains the gates to the Barsoomian afterlife. However in certainty, the Therns who reside in this area, simply do not need to be disturbed by any of the other races. Any of the other Barsoomians who emerged to the Therns' location by accident, were either consumed by the beasts that populate the area or considered as slaves by the Thern. Carter must triumph over the obstacles of jealously, delight, greed, and prejudice to be able to survive. Entangled in politics, Carter sees himself imprisoned for an entire year, and upon his release, he won't aid a candidate's advertising campaign for ruler of the Helium region of Barsoom, and it is once more imprisoned. The e book ends on an exciting cliffhanger that leads in to the third e book in this excitement series.
