Mr. District Law firm arrived to radio in 1939 and focused on a crusading DA known as Paul Garrett. Created, written, and directed by former rules scholar Ed Byron, the series was influenced by the early years of NY governor Thomas E. Dewey. It had been Dewey's public conflict against racketeering that resulted in his election as governor and allowed him to run for the presidency of america. Phillips H. Lord, the creator of Gang Busters, helped Byron develop the concept and coined the name. Dwight Weist was radio's first Mr. Area Attorney. By using his sidekick, Len Harrington, and his secretary, Edith Miller, Mr. Area Attorney proved every week to be "champion of people - guardian in our fundamental rights to life, liberty, and the quest for happiness!" Close to the end of its radio run in the early 1950s, the series made a move to television, with the current radio ensemble reprising their jobs.
