The first volume of the perennial favorite sitcom The Escapades of Ozzie and Harriet. Ozzie Nelson was Red Skelton's bandleader on the favorite radio series The Red Skelton Show. Ozzie's better half, Harriet Hilliard, was Skelton's singer. When Skelton was drafted in March 1944, Ozzie was prompted to build his own family sitcom radio series. The Escapades of Ozzie & Harriet launched on CBS radio on October 8, 1944 and made a midseason swap to NBC in 1949. It starred Ozzie as the top of the Nelson household, including his better half, Harriet, and their two males, David and Ricky. Every week the Nelsons found themselves in another amusing situation, much to the joy of the listeners. In 1952 Ozzie helped bring The Escapades of Ozzie & Harriet to ABC television set, attracting a straight much larger audience, becoming synonymous with the perfect of 1950s American family life. Bowing out in 1966, The Escapades of Ozzie & Harriet became the longest-running live-action sitcom in US television set history.
