Jerry Question is the hero of the hilarious coming-of-age novel. A 19-year-old Mormon missionary, Jerry leaves South Dakota to save souls in New Zealand for The Cathedral of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Elder Wonder's avenue is fraught with obstacle. He misses his girlfriend, Susan, who tried out valiantly to seduce him before he kept, but to his regret, he continued to be strong for both of them. Now, he fears he'll lose her in his two-year lack. And he is flawed. From the strictures of the LDS church, he is a compulsive masturbator, or in Mormon parlance, a "self-pollinator". Jerry makes a solemn covenant with his Father in Heaven that all time he self-pollinates, he'll find a spirit for Jesus. After a month, he owes his Father in Heaven 40 converts. Elder Jerry Question also has difficulty growing his testimony - i.e. one's absolute opinion in the absolute real truth of the LDS trust. Complicating his life is Elder Freight, a 20-year-old missionary who teaches him the finer factors of transforming heathens - when he is not breaking their bone fragments. But he does bond with Sibling Ormsby, a Maori who urges him to persist despite his uncertainties. When Elder Freight will take his life, Jerry is devastated, and he delves into the dark background of the church, learning that the founding polygamist prophets were often conmen, fortune hunters, or even murderers. Salvation of a sort comes when Susan flies to his part. They'll be expelled from the church and disgrace their families. But first, Jerry has to protect the objective chief executive and his better half from church officers in Utah, something he manages with characteristic ingenuity. Within its comic framework, the novel is interesting about the Mormon church. In addition, it shows how elderly men try to stifle and control young men.
