Addie Andrews is living a life interrupted. Tragedy sent her fleeing from Chicago to the shelter of an urgent inheritance - her beloved aunt's somewhat dilapidated home in Eunice, Arkansas, society very tiny. There she reconnects with a few of her most valued childhood memories. Only if they didn't make her feel a great deal! People say nothing at all happens in small towns, but Addie quickly learns better. She's got an elderly next-door neighbor who perplexingly dances outside in his underwear, a residence requiring more work than she has money, a best friend whose child uncannily predicts the elements, and an area drug dealer retaining an enormous grudge against her. Most surprising of most, she's got a puppy. But not any dog: a bedraggled puppy dog she discovered left behind, lost, and in desperate need of love. Similar to Addie herself. She'd come to Eunice wishing to cover from the world, but soon she discovers that perhaps she's finding the way back - to living, laughing, and adoring once more.
