In the evening of May 6, 1942, time after US Military Standard Jonathan Wainwright surrendered all US and Filipino makes on the island of Corregidor and other fortified islands in Manila Bay to the Imperial Japanese Army, 18 All of us Navy sailors from USS Quail began their daring break free to freedom. Utilizing a 36-feet Navy motor launch, the 18 sailors, led by Lieutenant Commander John Morrill began their 2,000-mile journey through Japanese-infested waters. With only a watch, compass, homemade sextant and some maps, it was an unbelievable feat of navigation. Their storyline is one of great audacity, where the generosity and bravery of the Filipino people, along with sheer luck, played an intrinsic role in the results of occasions. This World Conflict II escape storyline was originally shared as some Sunday Evening Post articles in December, 1942, and then as a booklet in early on 1943. The booklet was written by Lieutenant Commander Morrill significantly less than a year following the break free. This republished version of South from Corregidor is as the Skipper, as Lieutenant Commander Morrill is called by his crew, wrote it.
