Bloodstream in the Soil is the first booklet about the research into the filming of Hustler publication publisher Larry Flynt and his country legal professional in Gwinnett State, Georgia, in 1978. But this booklet is not primarily about Larry Flynt, or even his shooter, the serial killer Joseph Paul Franklin, though both men are of course important character types in the storyline. This true bank account is informed alternately from the perspective of Detective J. Michael Cowart and by pursuing Franklin's life from child years through his execution. The monster that was Joseph Paul Franklin was the consequence of a perfect storm of circumstances, which included poverty, cruel mistreatment as a child, the detestation and mistrust between blacks and whites, integration, and the hate organizations that run and recruited openly. Detective Cowart tells the storyline of his first benefits to Franklin, and the cat-and-mouse game that ensued. A self-proclaimed truth-seeker, the detective possessed to appear to befriend Franklin to get him to provide enough information to prosecute him in the Flynt filming. Throughout expanding this rapport, Cowart increases astonishing understanding into many of Franklin's other cold-blooded killings and offences, and his twisted justification for the kids. This book tells of an extremely real struggle between right and wrong. It details with stark integrity the awful truths that characterized the South during the volatility of the sixties and seventies, and of the unattractive reality that sits just beneath the veneer of a lovely region known because of its warm hospitality. Along the way, it examines some hard lessons about life, trust, and bargain.
